HTC Corporation, a leading maker of mobile phones, and SMART Communications, a leading wireless operator in the Philippines, recently announced the introduction of the first Android-powered mobile phone in the country, the HTC Magic. The device comes with a sleek design and with impressive compactness, while also being able to deliver an enhanced Internet experience.

The HTC Magic comes with Outlook synchronization and a Smart Dialer, as well as with true entertainment and communication capabilities. In addition, the device sports a 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen display, as well as a trackball for easy access, not to mention its 3.2-megapixel photo snapper or the included GPS receiver.

“The HTC Magic embodies the compact style and sophistication for which HTC has come to be known, with the powerful and intuitive internet experience for which the Android platform was designed,” says Peter Chou, president and CEO, HTC Corporation.

Annie P. Naval, marketing group head of SMART, added that “To truly maximize the power of advanced, all-in-one devices, they need to be powered by innovative operator technologies – offering the HTC Magic through SMART Gold is a natural fit.”

Other features of the HTC Magic include zoom in/out functions on the trackball, auto screen rotation, as well as simplified setup of inboxes, and Microsoft Exchange server synchronization for email, calendar and contacts. The Smart Dialer included with the device allows users to call people either by dialing their phone number or by dialing the first letters of their name.

The HTC Magic will become available for SMART Communications' New Connect and Retention subscriptions with the Smart Gold Plans 500, 800, 1200, 1800, 2500, 3500 on a two-year contract. According to the carrier, the phone’s package will include a 2GB microSD memory card.
