Australian mobile phone carrier Telstra has just announced the upcoming availability of two new Android-based smartphones on its airwaves, namely the HTC Desire S and the HTC Wildfire S.

The two smartphones are expected to become available for purchase in the country exclusively on the carrier's network, with Desire S made available before the end of this month, and the Wildfire S set to hit shelves in July.

HTC Desire S arrives on the market with a large 3.7-inch touchscreen display, complemented by a 1GHz 8255 Snapdragon processor, back and front-facing cameras, and a unibody design.

The handset was launched as the successor of last year's popular HTC Desire, and is expected to prove as appealing to users as its predecessor.

The Wildfire S comes as the successor of Wildfire, and sports a similarly compact designed with a 3.2 inch touch screen and a 5 megapixel camera on the back, and with a lower price tag attached to it.

“Australians are displaying an incredible appetite for adopting smartphones. HTC is committed to offering strong alternatives to Australian consumers looking for a smartphone to suit their individual lifestyles,” said Ben Hodgson, country manager, HTC Australia and New Zealand.

The HTC Desire S hits the sweet spot for people who want a premium Android smartphone experience. The HTC Wildfire S is affordable and compact without compromising the quality consumers have come to expect from HTC.”

Both of these mobile phones are based on Google's Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system, and feature the HTC Sense UI on top of it. They would prove users with fast access to Google Mobile services, as well as to social networking sites, and to applications available through the Android Market.

The HTC Desire S is set to hit shelves on May 31st, 2011 on the carrier's $59 Freedom Connect Plan with a monthly repayment of $5 per month (a total minimum cost of $1,536 for 24 months).

“Telstra Business customers will be able to team the Desire S with a range of Business Mobile PLUS and Business Mobile Maximiser plans,” the carrier announced. The mobile phone would also be put for sale outright for RRP $648.

The Wildfire S would feature an outright price of RRP $360, and should be available starting with July 19th on various Telstra Freedom Connect Plans.
