Taiwanese manufacturer HTC has just announced the launch of the Desire S Android smartphone on the Indian market.

HTC Desire S is available for purchase starting this week at authorized HTC resellers across the country for Rs. 25,490 (about $577).

Equipped with the latest HTC Sense UI, the device is the next generation smartphone in the Desire family.

The phone combines the sleek aluminum unibody design with high-end features, which gives it a solid look and makes it a worthy successor of the original Desire.

HTC developed the HTC Sense experience to bring cutting-edge innovation to our customers in simple and natural ways that just make sense; this is what the HTC Desire S represents best,” said Ajay Sharma, country head, HTC India.

The new phone offers an exhilarating mix of style, innovation and features that extends people’s mobile experience in ways that feel personal and completely original”, he added.

The device is enhanced with Qualcomm's new 1GHz Snapdragon MSM8255 processor and the Adreno 205 GPU (graphical processing unit) to make it snappier.

Unlike the original Desire, this one comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform out-of-the-box and packs more memory: 1.1 GB ROM and 768 MB RAM.

The HSDPA-enabled handset sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, which offers users the possibility to capture High-Definition videos (720p@30fps). A secondary front-facing camera for video calling is present as well.

As the manufacturer suggests, the new HTC Sense experience offers users a wide range of enhancements that improve the way they capture, create, share and access multimedia content.

One of the new apps included with HTC's UI is called HTC Locations and allows users instant and on-demand access to maps without download delays or mobile roaming charges.

In addition, HTC Sense also includes a new integrated online e-reading app that uses an e-book store powered by Kobo.
