Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has released on its website new software updates for two of its popular handsets running under Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system, namely the HTC HD2 and the HTC Touch2. The more important of the two updates seems to be the one targeting the HD2, available in the form of a ROM upgrade for users in various European countries.

According to the company's support web site, the new ROM for HD2 has been released on January 25, and sports the following versions: Norway – 1.66.409.1, Spain – 1.66.412.1, Denmark- 1.66.403.1, France – 1.66.406.1, Sweden – 1.66.413.2, Italy – 1.66.408.1, WWE – 1.66.405.2. “Keeping in touch has always been very important, and this update delivers fast and reliable SMS messaging,” the handset vendor describes the new software.

At the same time, HTC also notes the following: “Before you proceed, please confirm that this software upgrade is a newer version than what is currently installed on your device. If it is the same version and your device is operating normally, there is no need to reinstall the software. To check what version is installed on your device, click Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab, and note the ROM version, CPU, and Radio version.”

Those interested in the new ROM upgrade can find it available for download on the company's website here. However, we should also mention that it is only a generic software update, and that any settings provided by a carrier will be lost upon upgrading. At the same time, one should also consider backing up all data on the phone, just to make sure that nothing important is lost.

As for the HTC Touch2, the new software update released for the device “allows for your MP3 to be set as ringtones for incoming calls,” the company says. The update is available for devices sporting ROM versions less than or equal to 1.33.XXX.X, and will be lost in case one performs a hard reset of the phone. The new software solution can be downloaded from HTC's website here, where you will find necessary instructions on the update process as well.
