Since HP's quite on a serious roll at this year's CES, it should come as no surprise that the computer manufacturer also upgraded one of its most iconic portable systems, the ENVY, or at least the 17-inch version.

So, as the company informs us, the powerful HP ENVY 17, first introduced in May, now features HP CoolSense Technology, making it the first high-performance HP PC with advanced cooling technology.

Furthermore, the built-in AMD switchable graphics technology dynamically alternates between integrated graphics and AMD Radeon HD 6850M discrete graphics for enhanced performance and battery life.

Coupled with future second-generation Intel Core processors (for those of you not yet familiar with this term, we're talking about the Sandy Bridge platform here), the HP ENVY 17 becomes a very serious multimedia machine, sharing content wirelessly from the notebook PC to TVs and other screens using Intel Wireless Display technology.

Additionally, the HP ENVY 17 features Beats Audio (that lets you experience music the way the artist intended you to by delivering it in its original form without the distortions and dropped notes typical in digital playback) and an HP Triple Bass Reflex Subwoofer for high-quality sound, an impressive, 17.3-inch diagonal, HD BrightView display and up to 2 terabytes of storage capacity.

HP also reveals the fact that future models of the HP ENVY 17 3D are expected to include DDD’s TriDef 3D Experience Ignition Game Player, allowing users to experience immersive 3-D stereoscopic gaming at no additional cost.

Fortunately, not much has changed in terms of design, the Envy still featuring a laser-etched aluminum finish that covers a lightweight but strong magnesium alloy chassis, that's both stylish and elegant.

Sadly, the company's not been particularly generous as far as the market release date is concerned, simply informing us that the updated HP ENVY 17 is expected to be available soon with pricing to be determined.
