Launched not so long ago as a response to Nvidia's GTX 560 Ti graphics card, the 1GB version of the Radeon HD 6950 may get an additional price cut as HIS has just announced that it reduced the MSRP of its 1GB Cayman Pro solution.

The announcement was made by HIS Marketing Manager Peter Yeung and should be effective starting immediately.

As a result of the price cut, the graphics card will now retail for 190€, almost 11% lower than its original price that was set by HIS as 215€.

At this price point, the HIS Radeon HD 6950 1GB is slightly less expensive than most of the GTX 560 Ti solutions that are available right now on the European market, although there are still a few GF114-based cards that retail for less than 190€.

The 1GB version of the Radeon HD 6950 was specially built in order to take the GTX 560 Ti full on, as Nvidia's graphics card managed to find a price niche where AMD didn't have any solutions that could compete with it.

Compared to its older brother that comes with 2GB of video buffer, the 1GB version packs the same specifications and its Cayman Pro core features 1408 stream processors, 88 texturing units, 32 ROP units as well as a 256-bit memory interface.

The operating clocks are set at 800MHz for the core and 1.25GHz (5.0GHz effective) for the GDDR5 video buffer, and its performance is almost identical with that of the 2GB version of the card except for gaming at 2560x1600 and higher resolutions.

Right now, we don't know if HIS' decision to lower the price of its Radeon HD 6950 1GB graphics card will be limited to Europe, or if it will become effective worldwide.

The card is available right now for 189.90€ from various European retailers. (via HardwareLuxx)
