When Take Two and Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360 and for the PlayStation 3 in May 2008, PC players complained that they didn't get a version of the game.

The open world adventure managed to sell very well and made it to a lot of Game of the Year lists in 2008, and towards the end of the year, Take Two launched a PC version of the game. Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that the port was not rock solid, as there were several bugs affecting the gameplay, while the overall performance was limited even on very powerful systems.

Now, Rockstar and Take Two are announcing that they are releasing patch 1.0.3.0 for Grand Theft Auto IV, which is set to address a variety of performance-related issues, while also fixing several smaller bugs. You can get the 1.0.3.0. patch from Softpedia.

For starters, players can now use an “Off” setting for both Reflection quality and Shadow quality, which means that they are able to sacrifice some part of the graphics for better performance in game. There are also fixes related to the way the ATI 1900 cards are handling light sources and the Alt – Tab switching now works flawlessly.

Take Two is also saying that there are overall graphical performance optimization and some tweaks to make sure that the slowdown in the game is manageable, even where “heavy physics calculations” are in order, like in 32-player races.

A host of new options have also been added to the Controls section of the game, allowing the player to chance the way in game actions are mapped to keys. You can now remap the Enter, the Backspace and the Arrow keys, while using two input sources to control your character within Grand Theft Auto IV.
