Gran Turismo franchise creator Kazunori Yamauchi has just revealed, during the launch of his newest game, Gran Turismo 5, that the platform for the next title in the racing simulator series, Gran Turismo 6, isn't set in stone, so it might appear either for the current PlayStation 3 or on the next Sony console, presumably the PlayStation 4.

Gran Turismo 5 is one of the biggest racing games in the world, with over 1,000 cars, over 70 tracks and a lot of game modes, ranging from regular racing, to Nascar, karting or rally racing.

Still, Yamauchi, the lead designer and boss of Polyphony Digital, the developer of the game, revealed a few weeks ago that work has already started on Gran Turismo 6.

Now, when asked during a launch even for GT5 if he knows on what platform the next game will appear, the Japanese developer said that things are quite complicated.

"10 years ago it was easier to predict what would happen three years in the future," he said. "Nowadays no-one knows what happens in the future. In three years, we don't know what will happen."

If Gran Turismo 6 will appear for the PlayStation 4, it would make the current PS3 the only platform with just a single full-pledged Gran Turismo title, as GT5: Prologue just acted as a technical demo.

Until a platform is known, however, expect Gran Turismo 5 to be updated with patches and new content almost "every week, every month," as Yamauchi revealed that the Polyphony Digital team will continue to improve and add even more new features to the racing simulator.

He also revealed that the online features will be upgraded, so that everyone will have a great experience when racing with their friends online or just using the feature to check leaderboards or GT5 news.

Is it too early to think about GT6 and the PS4 or do you think that the end of the current generation consoles will arrive soon?
