14 DAY TRIAL // Whenever one hears that Lady Gaga will be singing live at an event, one immediately expects a performance to steal the show. At the Grammy Awards 2011, Gaga did not disappoint, taking on the stage to do a live rendition of her latest single, “Born This Way.”
Before she hatched out of an egg on the stage (yes, you read that right), Gaga was on the red carpet – in the same egg that was carried by men and women dressed in pale latex skirts and pants.
She didn’t break out of it, presumably because there was something wrong with the hatch and it wouldn’t open but, safe to say, she came across no such problem when on stage.
As the video below will show, after coming out of the egg (and thus replicating the words of the song “Born This Way” – Gaga was born right there on the stage, in front of the live audience), the singer showed what it is exactly that makes her the hottest female pop star of the moment.
The performance itself was mellow as compared to previous ones from Gaga (no blood, not that much crazy dancing, not too much theatricality), but it could be that this was the purpose behind it: tone down the stage antics to allow for the focus to fall on the message.
“Born This Way” is an anthem for bullied LGBT teens, a power song that is meant to tell everyone they’re special, regardless of what others around them say, as we also noted upon the release.
Dressed in a midriff-bearing latex suit, a huge hat and what looks like horn-shaped pads on her cheekbones and shoulders, Gaga danced with similarly-clad dancers and sang her little heart out in what is dubbed one of the best performances of the night at the Grammys.
There was also a brief interlude in which Gaga rocked on a gothic-looking glass pipe organ – after all, there’s only so much toning down of the crazy antics she could do – but, in almost no time, she was back to the dancing and singing.
Later that night, Gaga was again on stage, this time to pick up her awards for Best Pop Vocal Album for “The Fame Monster,” and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Short Form Music Video for “Bad Romance.”
