Even though Microsoft has attacked Google directly so many times, the Mountain View-based search giant has always preferred not to comment on these efforts, adopting a very reluctant attitude that was almost annoying for Redmond executives.

This time, however, Google has replied in its very own way: the company this A.M. released a new version of the Gmail Web platform, rolling out a new UI, improved search and integration with Google Calendar.

The update is available to Android, BlackBerry, iOS and Kindle Fire users, so no support for Windows Phone adopters. Just like TNW notes, this could be Google’s reaction to Microsoft’s recent attacks, as the software firm has criticized Gmail for the way it handles users’ privacy.

Of course, neither Google nor Microsoft commented on this scenario, but we’re ready to bet that Microsoft’s reaction should arrive in just a few days, as it’s now working on a refreshed Scroogled effort.
