Mountain View-based Internet giant Google has just announced a new enhancement brought to its Google Maps service, aimed at offering mobile phone users the possibility to enjoy it straight from the browser on their devices.

According to Google, almost half of Google Maps users come from mobile, and the new improvement was meant to provide them with a better experience while on the go.

“With 40% of Google Maps usage on mobile devices, we want you to have a consistent Google Maps experience wherever you use it,” the company notes in a recent blog post.

“So, today we’re announcing our updated Google Maps experience for mobile browsers on Android and iOS.”

To access Google Maps on their mobile phones, users would simply have to visit maps.google.com through their mobile browser, and opt-in to share their location.

As soon as Google Maps is loaded on the browser, users should benefit from features similar to those available for users on the desktop version of the Maps.

Some of the options available for users would include: - See your current location - Search for what’s nearby with suggest and auto complete - Have clickable icons of popular businesses and transit stations - Get driving, transit, biking, and walking directions - Turn on satellite, transit, traffic, biking, and other layers - View Place pages with photos, ratings, hours, and more - When signed into your Google account, access your starred locations and My Maps. Google also notes that the Google Maps for mobile browsers service does not depend on the mobile operating system running on a specific device.

Users of various platforms should benefit from the same experience, as well as from updates, all without the need to install new software, regardless the phone owned.

As stated above, users interested in getting started with Google Maps on their mobile browser should head over to maps.google.com from their phones.
