Get it this winter

Paradox Interactive, as publisher, and BattleGoat Studios, as developer, announce that they are planning to release an expansion for Supreme Ruler 2020 this winter. The expansion will be called Global Crisis and aims to expand the scope of the already very deep simulation Supreme Ruler is.

David Thompson, who is the co-founder of BattleGoat and the lead designer on the title, said that “This is the first time we've developed an expansion pack and we wanted to ensure that we had significant new content for our dedicated players to enjoy. At the core of the expansion pack we created a whole new sandbox style campaign that paints a new and far more intricate portrayal of the world of 2020 based on many of the ominous events from recent real-world headlines. Anyone who’s played our game knows that the possibilities to change the underlying storyline for new play experiences are limitless. There’s always something going on in the world, thanks to human nature, that can easily escalate into a conflict”.

The idea is that the world is moving closer to the brink of conflict and the player can take charge of any country as internal politics is managed, as battle preparations commence and as conflicts flare up only to be settled via negotiation or nuclear exchange.

The expansion to Supreme Ruler 2020 will bring 20 new scenarios, more than double the current number available in the game, more random events and scripted elements (which need to be taken into account as you prepare your strategy) and some graphical improvements.

The big problem most players will have with Supreme Ruler 2020 is that the game is actually too complex for its own good. There are thousands of options and, even though the AI can take over some areas for you, it's still a lot to take in, especially when things get hot and conflict explodes all over the world. The expansion does not seem to fix this complexity issue.
