eyeSight's new gesture recognition technology for Android tablets and Windows-based portable computers comes just in time for the 2011 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. With the recent announcement of Honeycomb and all the hype created around Android tablets, any innovation will likely be very well received.

eyeSight is a developer of Touch Free Interfaces designed to enhance users’ experience while operating devices and applications.

The developer's gesture recognition technology is software-based and uses the device's standard built-in camera to track the user's hand gestures and convert them into commands.

Users can remotely control their music and video player, browse through eBooks, manage presentations, play games, control PC apps and carry out many other tasks without touching the keyboard or touchscreen,” said Gideon Shmuel, eyeSight's CEO.

It is ideal for functions that do not require hands-on management and offers a new and improved user experience,” continued Gideon Shmuel.

The Touch Free technology introduced by eyeSight is a 100% software solution, optimized for mobile platforms, as it offers low CPU and memory requirements. The solution is based on advanced image processing and machine vision algorithms, which analyze real time video input from cameras. In addition, the technology works regardless of the processor's power and the camera's hardware, and produces gesture recognitions even when using standard VGA cameras built into the devices.

eyeSight's Hand Gesture Recognition Technology does not require any hardware changes or a 3D camera, as it only utilizes the existing standard built in 2D camera.

As a side note, this is not the first innovative technology introduced by eyeSight, as the company also launched the Natural User Interface for Android mobile devices last year.
