Gearbox is a very busy developer, with Borderlands 2 and Aliens: Colonial Marines both set to launch during 2012, and the leader of the team says that Aliens is the labor of love for the company, despite the difficulties it has generated during the creation process.

Randy Pitchford, the leader of Gearbox, spoke to The Verge about the Aliens franchise and said, “We clearly love Halo ... Halo is cool is because it is the first time we got to interactively play Colonial Marines from Aliens.

“You can feel the influence, you can feel the inspiration, it is not just subtle, it is in your face to the point where the sergeant from Halo is the sergeant from Aliens. It is like the same exact character trope and all the designs of the dropships and stuff, it is all there.”

The studio boss says that he has seen all the Aliens movies about 50 times in order to make sure that he is well positioned to see how the video game integrates into their world and revealed that the Gearbox team tries to deliver the same mix of suspense, horror and fear.

Colonial Marines is squad based, which is an entirely new take on the Aliens video game universe, and players will have to be careful about their squad mates and their survival in order to make sure that he can finish his mission.

Gearbox will bring to life the iconic weaponry of the movie series and many of the well-known enemies, but gamers can also expect to see new alien designs created specifically for Colonial Marines.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is currently set to appear on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 with a launch date of fall 2012.

A version for the Nintendo made Wii U is also under development.
