On Wednesday, mobile phone carrier Sprint lowered the price tag for Galaxy Tab, the Android-based tablet PC that Samsung launched in the third quarter of the last year, making it available for purchase for only $299.99 upon the signing of a contract agreement.

Those who would like to purchase the new device without committing to a two-year contract would be able to do so while paying $499.99 for it.

Both price tags were lowered by $100 when compared to the initial cost the Samsung Galaxy Tab featured at Sprint.

Moreover, the new price tags are in line with the cost that Galaxy Tab sports at Best Buy since last week, a recent article on BGR reads.

The Galaxy Tab was one of the nicest Android-based devices that Samsung launched last year, along with the Galaxy S smartphone.

Boasting a 7-inch touchscreen display, the tablet PC packs a powerful 1GHz application processor, along with front-facing camera for video calls, Wi-Fi connectivity, and more.

“This all-in-one 7-inch touchscreen device takes multitasking to the extreme. Read a book, listen to hot tracks, take a picture, video conference, watch a movie, email, post to Facebook or surf the Web, you can do it all-no desk required,” the wireless carrier notes on its website.

Although it is a tablet PC, the Galaxy Tab still comes with support for some of the most common features in Android smartphones, as well as for a wide range of applications available for download via the Android Market.

As Sprint notes on its website, Galaxy Tab comes with features like:

Cutting-edge technology includes Swype, TouchWiz 3.0 and Android 2.2 Superior web surfing - including flash - on a brilliant 7-inch screen Dual cameras, Memory card slot, Bluetooth Wireless Mobile Hotspot capable, GPS Navigation enabled, Email capable
