Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has lowered the price tag of its Samsung Galaxy Tab to as low as $299.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement.

The tablet PC was launched at this carrier last year, when it arrived on other networks in the country as well.

Other wireless operators in the United States already lowered the price tag for this device, but Verizon waited a little longer before making the move.

However, starting today, the wireless carrier would have more than just one tablet PC on sale for its customers, as it just made available for purchase the Motorola XOOM with Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet PC was launched last year with Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on board, which seems to be playing pretty nice on its 7-inch touchscreen display, even if it was not optimized for larger screens.

The display boasts a WSVGA 1024 x 600 pixel resolution. The Galaxy Tab also includes a powerful 1GHz Hummingbird processor, as well as 3.0MP rear–facing camera with Auto–focus and video recording capabilities, and a 1.3MP front–facing camera.

“A large 7–inch screen offers plenty of room for the thousands of interactive games and apps available for the Android platform, and its slim design makes it perfect for travel and one–handed grip,” the wireless carrier explains.

“The built–in Media Hub gives you the ability to watch as you download popular television shows, movies and other media, or use the Galaxy Tab to relax and enjoy an e–book.

“With so many options for customization and interactivity, the Galaxy Tab gives you everything you want, anywhere you go…and beyond,” the operator continues.

The original Galaxy Tab should soon have a brother on Verizon's airwaves, namely a LTE-enabled flavor of the device. Moreover, Samsung announced the release of a WiFi-only version of the tablet PC for the near future, as well as the upcoming availability of a larger Galaxy Tab device, with a 10.1-inch screen.
