South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung might actually leave its Galaxy S users out of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich party, some of the latest reports on the matter suggest.

The company announced a few weeks ago that, while some of its Galaxy devices would be getting an upgrade to the new OS version, Galaxy S would be left out of it.

Similarly, the Galaxy Tab device, the first iteration of the company’s tablet PC, will be left with the OS flavor it currently runs under.

The handset vendor said at the time that the memory on these devices would not be able to accommodate the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform.

Overwhelmed with demand, Samsung said a few days ago that it would look into finding a way to get Android 4.0 running on these devices.

This came as great news for many users. Many started to hope that Samsung would actually change its mind and that it would push the Ice Cream Sandwich update to them as well. It turns out that the handset vendor might actually not make the move, and that users will remain stuck with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform release.

However, the mobile phone maker might still offer them a treat, in the form of a Value Pack, so as to enhance the experience they receive from their devices.

Nothing has been made official on this for the time being, but this is not the first time when Samsung makes such a move.

Owners of Wave 525 and Wave 533 devices were informed not too long ago that the latest bada OS release from the vendor, namely bada 2.0, would not be available for them either.

Instead, they will be provided with a Value Pack upgrade aimed at delivering an experience similar with the bada 2.0 user experience, even if hardware limitations prevented it.

Galaxy S users might be offered better web browsing, along with new widgets and improved multi-tasking capabilities to compensate for the lack of Ice Cream Sandwich.

For the time being, however, the official word from Samsung is that it is reconsidering its position towards the Android 4.0 upgrade for Galaxy S.
