Friday, September 9, 2011, will be a joyful day for the owners of a Samsung Galaxy S device on the airwaves of Vodafone in Australia.

The wireless carrier has just announced that the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread software update will begin emerging on devices starting with that day, no later than tomorrow.

Vodafone announced on their blog that they were pleased “to announce that the Android 2.3.3 update for Samsung Galaxy S will be available from 12PM AEST on Friday September 9, 2011.”

The software update will become available for download via the Samsung Kies application, the same as other software update for the mobile phone did (the Windows application is available for download from Softpedia via this link).

The new Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread software update for the Samsung Galaxy S at Vodafone Australia weighs in at around 400MB, the carrier announced.

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread software update has been in testing at the wireless carrier since July, but it seems that only now the right software was delivered from Samsung.

What users should know about the software update includes:

- The update is available free of charge, however it will require internet connection on your PC to download and install the new update via Samsung Kies - You’ll need to back up all mobile phone data via Samsung Kies before performing the upgrade - It’s recommended that you have a full battery when upgrading.

As the wireless carrier notes, users interested in downloading and installing the new OS upgrade on their Galaxy S handsets should perform a backup of all personal files on the device, so as to make sure that no important files are lost during the installation process.

To kick off the installation, users will need to make sure that the battery inside their devices is fully charged, that the files on the phone have been backed up, and that the handset is connected to a Windows PC via a USB cable.

Then, they will simply have to fire up the Samsung Kies application, which will search for new software updates and will prompt for them to be downloaded and installed if available.
