Owners of a Galaxy S III smartphone on the network of UK wireless carrier Vodafone should start seeing the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS upgrade arriving on their devices starting with today, the company has officially confirmed.

However, the update will not reach all devices as soon as today, since it will be pushed out in phases, but should land on all units in the not too distant future.

“Great news, the Android 4.1 JellyBean update will be made available for Samsung Galaxy S3 handsets purchased from Vodafone on Monday,” the company wrote in a forum post.

“The update will be a staggered release, meaning customers will be notified in batches that it’s available for over the air download over the course of several days.”

Users willing to perform the update over the air should consider connecting their devices to a Wi-Fi network first, since the file is rather large.

“Alternatively, if you’d like to update without waiting for the over the air prompt, connect your phone to your PC with Samsung Kies and you’ll be able to update once it’s available on Monday,” the wireless carrier also announced.

Samsung announced last week the availability of this software update for its Galaxy S III units in the UK, and wireless carriers confirmed its release soon after.

Three UK informed its customers that the update was available for them since last week, and Vodafone is also making steps towards delivering it to users.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean arrives on handsets with a nice range of improvements over Ice Cream Sandwich, including better performance, courtesy of enhancements brought to Project Butter.

Additionally, there are a series of visual changes that users will take advantage of, such as a new Notifications bar, sizeable Pop-up play screen, new homescreen modes and the like.

Following the upgrade, users will also be able to take advantage of the Google Now feature.
