New photo and/or video cameras are coming out all the time, and while many of them are aiming for futuristic, or at least new, design styles, Fujifilm decided for a more retro look when it built the X10.

Panasonic is not the only company releasing new photo and/or video cameras now that the month of September has arrived.

Granted, Fujifilm might not have much chance of topping the new 3D cameras in terms of ambition and performance.

Then again, the company aimed for a different market segment, designing a digital camera which, building on the design of the X100, sports a retro look, for those who want some nostalgia in their lives or simply have the taste for the die-cast casing.

More specifically, the product features a die-cast shell made of magnesium alloy, all of it painted black.

“We are very excited to launch the X10 following the huge success of the Fujifilm X100. The aesthetic appeal of this camera with its intuitive controls allows consumers to experience photography the way it was always meant to be,” says Greg Poole, Vice President Sales & Marketing, Imaging Products at Fujifilm Canada.

“The X10 borrows a lot of the same technology and retro design of the X100 but with added features and at a more affordable price point, setting a new standard for style and quality for digital photography.”

For those that want the technical details, the Fujifilm X10 has a 12-megapixel EXR CMOS sensor, 4x optical zoom, an optical viewfinder (20 degree field of view) RAW shooting support, a new Optical Image Stabilization mechanism and a manual pop-up flash (range of 7 meters).

All in all, the product should look good while taking pictures or shooting 1080p videos, storing them on an SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card.

Finally, the device boasts a 2.8-inch LCD screen, an NP-50 Li-Ion battery and an ISO sensitivity of ISO 100 to ISO 12800. Sales will commence in late October/early November, for an unspecified price.
