Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, the new flavor of Microsoft's mobile operating system, is about to become available as a software update for existing devices, and it appears that Microsoft is making the last preparations to ensure that the update process will go smoothly on all handsets out there. The new software update is expected to arrive on devices as soon as this week, and it seems that the first phase of the roll-out has already kicked off, at least for those who had previous versions of Mango installed on their devices.

Beta releases of the new mobile operating system were previously pushed on a series of devices, including those in the hands of developers, and this first stage of the Mango update is meant for these handsets.

This first phase of the update process is meant to “clean-up” phones, so as to ensure that there will be no problems when Mango arrives.

Microsoft started to roll-out the ‘Mango Friends and Family Bundle: Pre-Cleanup’, windowsphonenz reports, adding that at least the HTC HD7 has received it.

The new update is meant to ensure that there will be no need to revert the handset to an earlier OS flavor to make sure that Mango will be visible and that it will be installed with no issues on mobile phones.

Last week, Microsoft announced that the Windows Phone Mango software update will be released very soon, but did not offer specific info on when that might happen.

However, most of the latest rumors on the matter suggested that things will kick off as soon as this week, and that US mobile phone carriers AT&T and Verizon Wireless might make the move as soon as tomorrow.

Other carriers around the world also announced that they are ready for the deployment of Windows Phone Mango, yet they did not provide specific release dates for it.
