Square Enix has just announced that it is currently working hard on bringing back the classic Japanese Role Playing Game Final Fantasy V onto the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable consoles via the PlayStation Network.

Square Enix is continuing to bring back its first iterations in the massively successful Final Fantasy series of JRPGs, and has just announced that it will be launching Final Fantasy V onto the PlayStation Network, for platforms like the PS3 home console or the PSP handheld one.

The company has revealed that the PSN edition of Final Fantasy V will have all-new computer-generated cinematic sequences, aka cut scenes, which will really bring to life the story of the classic game that was originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1992.

Classic gameplay features like the Active Time Battle system, the mini quests, the magic summoning and much more will still appear in this classic game.

In case you're not familiar with its story or forgot it since experiencing the original on the SNES or on platforms like first PlayStation or Game Boy Advance, to which it was ported after the 1992 release, check out Square Enix's official description below.

"One day, the Tycoon King, upon feeling an irregularity in the air currents, rushed to the Wind Shrine, only to find the Wind Crystal shattering to pieces right before his eyes. In addition to this catastrophe, an enormous meteor had fallen to the ground, causing earthquakes in the surrounding land near Tycoon Castle."

"Unbeknownst to them, this event is about to bring four people from different walks of life together on a common journey filled with new encounters and many mysteries."

Square Enix re-released the first Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II onto the PlayStation Network earlier this year, as well as on platforms like the iOS, for devices including the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

Expect Final Fantasy V to appear on the PSN later this year.
