Japanese fast food chain Yoshinoya Holdings has announced that, in an attempt to become a more sustainable company, it will switch to growing its own vegetables.

The only problem is that, according to Inhabitat, the fast food chain intends to start growing crops worryingly close to Fukushima.

Specifically, cabbages and onions are to be planted some 60 miles (100 kilometers) southwest of the nuclear plant. Apparently, Yoshinoya Holdings wishes to also grow rice in this area.

Seeing how several leaks have been reported at the Fukushima plant over the past few weeks – in fact, the latest leak was announced this Thursday – some might question Yoshinoya Holdings' plans to grow crops in the nuclear facility's proximity.

Still, the fast food chain maintains that its cabbage, onions and rice will be perfectly safe for human consumption. One can only hope this will indeed be the case.
