Some tabloids would do anything to sell more copies, they say

Late last week, we were telling you about the current issue of OK! Magazine, which claimed right on the cover that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were engaged. Talk of “Twilight wedding” was also initiated on the same cover, even if the article within the magazine made little reference to an actual engagement. Thanks to Twilight Lexicon and a couple of other Twilight fans, the above rumor has been put to rest.

Fans chose to dismantle the rumor using the easiest and most convenient trick in the book, that of ruining the credibility of the magazine running the engagement story. OK! has a long history of manipulating and bending the facts in such ways that they are hardly recognizable as reality once they come out in print, and the same goes with its policy as regards the Pattinson-Stewart rumored romance.

For instance, an older issue speaking of the public display of affection the two put on at the Teen Choice Awards uses as supporting argument a photo of them that has been digitally altered. As Twilight Lexicon, the biggest Twilight fansite, points out, the photo of Robert and Kristen is actually a composite of two separate pictures, with the two brought together thanks to the Photoshop wizard. “We leave it to you to decide how credible of a source OK magazine is.” the same e-zine then says of the engagement story.

However, OK!’s story was rubbished the moment it came out in print, as we also reported the other day. For starters, on the cover, the tab promised an “explosive” story of the engagement and the upcoming wedding, but not even the slightest mention of either was made in the accompanying article. This only said something about Kristen swinging by Robert’s place at night and pretending on the set they were husband and wife, much to the delight of their co-workers.

“The tabloid’s front page claims Twilight costars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have recently moved in together and are engaged. The article, however, says nearly nothing of the sort. […] Something tells us that being ‘like a couple of love-struck teenagers’ has little in common with a pair about to exchange I-dos. ‘Spending nights together in Rob’s suite’ in Vancouver is hardly cohabitating, either.” E! Online was writing at the time on the just-released OK! cover.
