A simple error is all it takes to violate the rights of individuals

Students who attend the University of Arizona and failed at least one of the midterm exams, received an email that was supposed to notify them on their grade, but due to an operating error each scholar saw the email addresses of all the others who were in their situation.

The Crimson White reveals that college representatives failed to comment if the email violated the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) but they claimed that those who made the mistake will be disciplined accordingly.

“As this situation demonstrates, it is essential to protect students’ personally identifiable information,” UA spokeswoman Cathy Andreen said. “Students’ email addresses are normally blinded and not visible to others receiving the message.”

This is a common mistake lately, not long ago The Register somehow managing to do the same thing.
