Fable III will have about 47 hours of recorded speech for its characters, up from about 36 hours for its predecessor. The increase is a sign of the commitment on the part of the team working on the role playing title at Lionhead to create a complex game world that draws in the player and makes him fell an emotional link to the narrative.

Georg Backer, who is an associate producer working on the audio aspects of Fable III, has talked at the Develop conference about the number of characters powered by the Artificial Intelligence of the video game, saying there are between 30 and 40 of them and that, “Apart from the story, quests and combat mechanics, we have a really great AI system. Our AI is the biggest chunk of our dialogue”.

It seems that there are 1,500 lines of dialog which are linked with marriage and a lot that are just gossip, things that NPCs will talk about while the player character passes by. There were three writers who worked on the over 460,000 words that are spoken by characters in Fable III.

Backer also claimed that the team is interested in providing more immersion in the virtual world of Albion for the player, with the elimination of the two dimensional user interface one of the main steps. He says, “Hence the idea of the Sanctuary, where you can go in and change weapons and clothes...You can pop in and out instantly...It's part of the story.”

Fable III is set to arrive on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and on the PC on October 26. The game takes places 50 years after the events of the previous game in the series and will see the player rebel against the rulers of the land and then become king and rule Albion.
