Electronic Arts is a big company with many high grossing franchises that produce a lot of money each time a new iteration is launched. Nowhere is this trend more apparent than in the company's sports franchises like Madden or FIFA.

After we've seen quite a lot of hype built around the cover athletes and the new mechanics of Madden NFL 10, which is due out this August, EA Sports has now decided to reveal the first details on FIFA 10, its soccer/football simulator, depending on what continent you are from.

After seeing over 275 million online games played in the last version, FIFA 09, the team at EA Sports has struggled to deliver an even more realistic football experience filled with minute details that make it that more interesting. A more sophisticated ball control and an improved physical interaction between players are now present, with them being able to move, behave and position themselves a lot more like in real life.

In terms of attack, players will be able to analyze the free space more accurately and attempt to curve their runs in order to create passing lanes. On the defense, concepts like position priority enable defenders to multitask while opponents are approaching in order to cover open spaces left by other teammates. Slide tackle targeting and press marking make the defensive play much more precise. The goalkeepers haven't been forgotten as their intelligence has been tweaked in order to provide a more responsive reaction to shots and realistic saves.

“We have benefited from 275 million games played online to refine FIFA 10 in a way that matters most to our fans,” said Andrew Wilson, vice president & executive producer for the FIFA franchise. “We’ve listened and responded to their feedback to improve player control, responsiveness and intelligence and create what we believe is the world’s most authentic football videogame.”

Other improvements introduced in order to please fans are a better balance on lofted through balls, a more realistic shooting mechanic with less shots hitting the goal posts and an all around faster type of gameplay, thanks to quick free kicks that keep the game's flow.

Overall, FIFA 10 will certainly be a much more solid experience than its predecessor, but more details will be revealed in the upcoming months before its release. Stay tuned to Softpedia for more details about this sports simulator.
