When Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, the MMO created by Mythic Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, was launched, a lot of people called it the World of Warcraft killer. But even if the game reported getting more than 750.000 subscribers, the release of Wrath of the Lich King, the second expansion for WoW, surely put a dent in that number and the developers must be thinking of new stuff that can attract gamers back to Warhammer. After all, the game needs to maintain momentum in order to compete in a MMO environment that has seen the downfall of Tabula Rasa and Hellgate: London.

Still, Mythic’s boss, Mark Jacobs, said that the rumored expansion could take some time to develop and test. He stated in a forum thread that "Just so you know, we haven't begun work on an XPack yet and aren't going to until we get a lot more done in WAR. The expansion can wait a little longer but the main game can't. And once we begin work on an XPack, it's going to take us quite a while to do it”.

He dropped one hint on the possible content in the expansion, mentioning that he was personally a big fan of the Vampire Counts appearing in the Warhammer fantasy lore.

Until the expansion is out, players are looking forward to the important 1.1 patch for the MMO, which is set to offer two new character classes. The Knight of the Blazing Sun is set to be a potent fighter in the service of the Empire that can also boost the fighting abilities of those who go into battle with him, while the Blackguard is a Dark Elf class focusing on offensive abilities and powerful attacks. The update should be up in a few days, probably before the end of the week.
