14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has updated the technical documentation it is offering for the protocols leveraged in Exchange Server 2010.
The refreshed set of Exchange Server Protocols docs are available free of charge via the Microsoft Download Center, as was the case with previous releases of the documentation.
The update was introduced to reflect the evolution of Exchange Server 2010 which received its first major upgrade last year.
“The Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 SP1 RTM Protocol technical documentation set provides detailed technical specifications for Microsoft protocols and extensions to industry-standards or other published protocols that are implemented and used in Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 SP1 RTM,” the software giant said.
“This allows the user to interoperate or communicate natively with Microsoft Office client and other server products.”
Microsoft offers the option of downloading the Exchange Server Protocols documents one by one, but there are bound to be customers, developers, etc. that will be discouraged by the sheer number of individual downloads.
They also have available a ZIP archive which packages all the documentation into a single download, making it much easier to grab.
“The documentation is designed to describe each protocol in detail as it is used by the Microsoft Exchange Server. Each protocol specification documents the technical requirements, limitations, dependencies, and Microsoft-specific protocol behavior,” the Redmond company stated.
“The documentation set includes a set of companion overview and reference documents that supplement the technical specifications with conceptual background, overviews of inter-protocol relationships and interactions, and technical reference information,” Microsoft added.
Service Pack 1 for Exchange Server 2010 hit RTM in August 2010 when the software giant made the upgrade available to customers around the world.
Since August 2010, Microsoft provided no less than three Update Rollups for Exchange Server 2010 SP1 RTM, the last of which being the best update option.
