When the first trailer for “R.I.P.D.” came out, fans were thrilled by the promise of a hilarious, if bumpy, ride with Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds behind the wheel. The truth is that the movie bombed, but even Jeff The Dude Bridges understands why.

The actor is featured on one of the three covers of the October issue of GQ Magazine, and inside the pages of the mag with a lengthy interview on box office bombs and pre-release jitters.

“I had such a great time working on that movie. I remember what we were doing. I thought: This could be fun to see. And when I saw it, I was a little underwhelmed. For my mind, the studio made some, uh, choices that I wouldn’t have made,” the actor says of how “R.I.P.D.” fared.

However, having years of experience to fall back on, Jeff knows he’s better off not taking this to heart, particularly because it’s something he can’t control.

“It’s kind of fun when the movie’s coming out,” he says, speaking in general.

“It’s like having a horse in the race. And they’re lining up, and they’re off! And you’re rooting for your horse. And in this case, the jockey fell off the horse and you came in last. Ha ha ha. You know. That happens sometimes,” Bridges adds.

Audiences weren’t the only ones not impressed with the film: critics trashed it for being “Men in Black’s” younger and poorer sibling, for having a ridiculously twisted and nonsensical plot, and for the second-hand GCI and 3D.
