Ericsson has just closed a deal with Israeli operator, Pelephone, to make the move to a new WCDMA/HSPA network from an existing CDMA network. This new technology should include the most evolved solutions resulting from Ericsson's long time experience in telecom networks.

Pelephone currently holds more than 2.5 million subscribers and looks to improve its services by creating a new WCDMA/HSPA mobile broadband network. The company has managed over the past years to lead the country to one of the highest penetration rates that have been seen around the world up to now.

As part of the agreement, Ericsson will deliver Radio Base Stations and the latest technology in soft switches over a period of one year. The goal will be that of enabling Pelephone to offer to its customers nationwide coverage with the latest HSPA technology. The contract also covers support services, deployment, integration and educational services.

"The decision to select Ericsson allows Pelephone to solidify its position as the most advanced cellular operator and the only operator in Israel to offer two state-of-the-art technologies so that its customers can benefit from a range of cutting-edge services and content in the technology of their choice", commented Gil Sharon, President and CEO at Pelephone.

The Israeli company looks to bring the latest technology to its growing market and make the best possible profits. "We are buying the superior HSPA cellular technology which will permit our customers to continue to enjoy the best communication services in Israel in upcoming years and will help Pelephone regain its leadership in the cellular industry", Gil Sharon further added.

For Ericsson, it might be just another contract in one more of the 140 countries where it currently brings its services. The company's long experience makes it the best partner to choose any time when a pro's point of view is needed to increase profits.
