Unleash creativity

Electronic Arts, through its Play label, has announced the development of Create, a new gaming experience set to be launched this fall that will be built around creativity and family play. The game is set to arrive on the Nintendo Wii, the PlayStation 3 complete with support for the motion tracking Move system, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft (it's not clear whether Kinect will be supported), the PC and the Mac.

Create is built around the idea of providing challenges to gamers, asking them to use a set of tools in innovative ways to solve them and then pick up their rewards for the solution and use them in other levels to go deeper into the game. Electronic Arts is insisting that Create will allow players to unleash their creativity not only be solving the challenges that the gamer throws at them but also by creating new levels and sharing them with friends. There are also ways to share solutions with other players and Electronic Arts even talks about “remixing” them before sending them to other gamers.

Harvey Elliott, who is the vice president and general manager at the Bright Light studios of Electronic Arts, has stated when the official announcement was made, “Create uses families’ imaginations to develop new ways to play together that are both fun and challenging. We wanted to design a game where the entire family can explore, decorate, and solve challenges where no solution is wrong and the only limit is the imagination.”

It seems that Electronic Arts is very interested in Create becoming a video game experience where sharing levels and solutions is at the core of the experience. It seems that the developers are taking a lot of cues from Little Big Planet, the PlayStation 3 exclusive made by Media Molecule, and from EA's own Spore and The Sims 3. More information will arrive as the launch date approaches.
