Sometimes, the auditions stage of Britain’s Got Talent is more surprising and definitely more entertaining than the life shows. Case in point: Edward Reid of Glasgow, who made quite an impression on judges with his dramatic take on old nursery rhymes.

As the Huffington Post notes, there was nothing about Reid to even hint that he had such a wonderful, powerful voice and, at the same time, this ability to be creative with material that apparently leaves no room for creativity now.

Still, Reid impressed on both counts – and the video below, at the end of this article, will prove that.

“Reid, a seemingly unusually coiffed oddity of a 35-year old Glaswegian drama teacher, made his way to the stage on the talent show Britain’s Got Talent on Saturday night,” the Post writes.

“As the judges, including Hasselhoff, snickered, Reid described his dream of one day singing for an audience – and then brought the assembled masses to a standing ovation,” says the same publication.

Indeed, one of the male judges can be heard uttering a loud “What?” the moment Reid starts singing “Old MacDonald,” mostly because they didn’t expect him to sing that either.

By the time Reid was done singing, he had the entire audience (judges included) eating out of the palm of his hand.

“Singing a dramatic medley of nursery rhymes, kicking off with ‘Old MacDonald,’ Reid wowed the crowd with his unexpectedly amazing voice and flair for the dramatic. He ended with the crowd clapping along, the judges with dropped jaws and three yes votes to ace his audition,” the Post writes.

Since Reid comes causing waves of interest on the same stage that also launched the career of Susan Boyle, again, a very unlikely BGT contestant, he’s now billed the “next Susan Boyle.”

In all fairness, since Susan, there have been plenty other “next Susan Boyles,” so we’ll just have to wait and see whether Reid has what it takes to be a superstar.
