About five months ago, wireless carrier Sprint launched on its airwaves the first Android-based smartphone with support for 4G connectivity, the HTC EVO 4G, and now the company also made available the official HDMI docking station for this device. For only $39.99, sprint customers can now purchase the device from the wireless carrier.

When the handset was announced, the docking station received a “coming soon” tag, but it was made available for purchase only now, and even with a different color than what others might have expected from it, namely black.

However, being an official HDMI docking station for the HTC EVO 4G means that the new device comes with a series of features that were not available with third-party solutions.

Thus, this piece of hardware comes with connectivity via micro USB and HDMI (Type D) ports. A micro USB and HDMI (Type A) port are present on its back, so that one can connect it to a computer, USB wall outlet, and/or to an HDMI-equipped device like an HDTV.

The guys over at Good and EVO managed to play around a little with the new device, and also published a series of photos with it, some of which can be seen attached to this article.

According to them, the retail package also includes a 6-foot HDMI Type A cable, along with the user manual, and, of course, the dock.

The device weighs in at around 3.8 ounces, and is said to be pretty glossy. Users might find it difficult at first to get it into position, since both ports/plugs need to be connected at the same time, but all should run smoothly after that.

However, it appears that the peripheral is not compatible with any cases or extended batteries that can be found on the market today, as they tend to expand the bottom portion of the EVO's case.

As stated above, the HDMI docking station for the HTC EVO 4G was already made available for purchase from Sprint for $39.99.
