CCP, the studio behind the massively successful EVE Online game, has confirmed that it’s now accepting entries into the upcoming closed beta stage for the new Dust 514 shooter, with potential participants needing to have an active EVE Online account if they want to try out the new PlayStation 3 exclusive.

EVE Online has attracted millions of online gamers over the years, with its in-game economy resulting sometimes in very lucrative deals for players who manage their own virtual space ships.

Now, CCP is trying to flesh out the EVE Online universe with Dust 514, an online first person shooter that sees its action take place on planets from the EVE universe, impacting the events in the actual PC MMORPG.

We’ve already heard quite a few things about the game, but now CCP has confirmed that a closed beta for the shooter will be ran soon enough, and registration is already opened.

“For months we have observed as fans asked for a Beta date on Dust 514, our PlayStation 3 exclusive persistent shooter. During that time the Dust 514 team has worked busily on the game, preparing for the moment when the first inhabitants of New Eden descend from the skies to the planets below. That time is now,” revealed a member of the Dust 514 team on the game's website.

“For now, registration is available exclusively to active subscribers of EVE Online who will join the pool of participants that we will be using to allow entry into early testing and special events for Dust 514. Registration for Mordu’s Private Trials does not guarantee entry, but as an active EVE subscriber, you are the first to have access to sign up for the closed beta.”

As you can see, it seems that CCP will accept other PS3 owners who don’t have an EVE subscription eventually, but it certainly helps speed up the process if you are already engaged in the sprawling sci-fi MMORPG.

Expect to hear more details about Dust 514 in the beginning of 2012.
