EQO Communications, a provider of mobile VoIP services, announced that it has added support for BlackBerry Pearl, Curve and other RIM handsets to its EQO Mobile application. The new BlackBerry handsets add to the list of already existing compatible devices that includes cell phones from top manufacturers, such as Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Samsung.

ECQ is a VoIP service for mobile phones that allows users to talk for free to other EQO users. The service also provides up to 95% cost savings on international calls and up to 70% on international text messages. In order to complete international calls or send text messages to offline EQO contacts or non-EQO contacts, users have to purchase EQO Credits.

EQO is simple to use, sparing people from calling cards, complicated dialing or call-back scenarios. EQO is powered by the EQO Mobile software application that makes calling as easy as using as a standard phone address book. EQO Mobile is free to download and installs itself automatically on the handset.

In addition to placing phone calls, ECQ Mobile enables users to send free text messages to other online ECQ users. Also, it allows users to chat with friends for free using Instant Messaging services, such as Google Talk, MSN, AIM, ICQ, Jabber and Yahoo. All the accounts are managed from a single screen on the mobile phone and ECQ Mobile allows users to keep multiple chat sessions going at the same time and shows presence icons that indicate the status of Instant Messenger buddies.

"There are more than seven million BlackBerry users around the world who can now enjoy the many benefits of EQO Mobile," said EQO CEO Bill Tam. "Blackberry users are typically avid communicators and by using EQO they will save a lot of money on international calls to land-line and mobile phone numbers. Add to that the ability to access your IM on MSN, AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, GoogleTalk and Jabber in the same application, and you have a very appealing option for people using BlackBerrys."

EQO is currently available in 28 countries from America, Europe and the Middle East. The mobile application can be downloaded from here.
