Electronic Arts announced recently that one of the world's most popular mobile games, Tetris, will now be available to play with friends any time, in real-time. The EA Mobile multiplayer games allow players to compete with one another "over the air," regardless of their location, using their mobile carrier's network. These games will feature sophisticated player-matching, chat and real-time multiplayer gameplay, using the EA Mobile proprietary platform.

"The great advantage of the mobile platform is its ability to connect people. These games are designed to make use of the mobile phone's inherent internet connectivity and ensure that a heated competition is never more than a few buttons away," said Michael Marchetti, senior vice president and general manager of EA Mobile.

Multiplayer gaming on a title like Tetris is simple. Players can choose to play against friends or let the system select a worthy opponent. Dueling pairs can block one another's efforts to clear lines and play on one of two multiplayer modes - "Ultra" allows gamers to race each other on a two-minute clock and "Forty Line" challenges them to clear 40 lines before their opponent.

The game will work cross-carrier so that friends using different mobile providers will still be able to compete in head-to-head competition.
