Sony held its E3 press conference yesterday and it couldn't have passed without mentioning one of the most expected titles for the company’s PlayStation 3: God of War III. Set to be the next generation final part of the trilogy, the game will see everybody's favorite Spartan, Kratos, return to fight with the Gods of Olympus once more.

During the conference, not many details were revealed by the guests, but the release date has been unveiled, and fans will have to circle out the whole month of March next year in order to devote it to Sony Santa Monica's creation.

Even though fans were expecting a 2009 holiday season release for the action adventure hack and slash game, it seems that God of War III will follow in the steps of its predecessors, also launched in March.

Sadly, there has been no word on that rumored collector's edition of the games that might feature both the first God of War and its sequel packed on a single Blu-ray disc, which might be supported by the PlayStation 3 via software emulation.

God of War III will follow the story of Kratos, now seeking revenge on the Gods that have betrayed him. He will scale the intimidating Mount Olympus and the dark depths of Hell in order to take his revenge. The warrior will encounter some of the darkest and most terrifying creatures of Greek mythology, but it is certain that nothing will stand in his way.

Overall, with the promise of using a new game engine that will use all of the power of the PS3, God of War III will be a blockbuster title for Sony and one that might give the console an advantage over its rivals, the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii.
