Microsoft has started automatically upgrading the last testing Build of Dynamics CRM 2011 to the Gold release.
On February 22nd, 2011 the company started serving Dynamics CRM 2011 RTM updates to all early adopters still running the Release Candidate development milestone of the customer relationship management solution.
According to the software giant,
KB 2461082 is being served through Windows Update to all testers running Dynamics CRM 2011 RC, irrespective of the actual language they use for the solution.
“This update package upgrades test environments that are running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Release Candidate (RC) build 5.0.9688.32 or a later build to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 build 5.0.9688.583,” Microsoft said.
Customers that have already downloaded and installed the final Build of Dynamics CRM 2011, know that Build 5.0.9688.583 is the RTM.
The first downloads of Dynamics CRM Server 2011 RTM went live on February 16th, 2011, and the company quickly confirmed that the solution had reached the
global availability milestone.
Microsoft advices customers making the jump from Dynamics CRM 2011 RC to Dynamics CRM 2011 RTM to first upgrade the server and only subsequently the clients. This because Dynamics CRM 2011 RTM clients will fail to play nice with Dynamics CRM 2011 RC servers.
The company even detailed what it called the “recommended upgrade path from Dynamics CRM RC to RTM:
- Uninstall the RC. Install to existing databases using the RTM bits.
- Apply the RTM Patch (KB 2461082) against the RTM server. This will enable you to import RC organizations if needed. See KB 2511317. If you do not need to import RC organizations, then you will not need the patch in this scenario.
- After you upgrade your deployment to run with an RTM server, you may need to log into Deployment Manager and upgrade your RC organizations from 5.0.9688.xx to 5.0.9688.583. You can do this by selecting your RC organization, and then click Upgrade in the Actions pane.
- Run the SQL Script from KB 2461082 against any Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 organizations that were upgraded to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 while the server was using RC bits.”
