Dropbox, the Web-based file hosting service operated by Dropbox, Inc., has just arrived on Research In Motion's BlackBerry smartphones in a beta version. The new application is meant to offer BlackBerry handset owners fast access to the service straight from their devices, and comes with features that are already popular among other users of Dropbox applications on mobile phones.
Some of the main features of the Dropbox for Blackberry Beta
application include:
- Access your Dropbox on the go
All the contents of your Dropbox are available for viewing. You can even stream music and movies in your Dropbox straight to your Blackberry device.
- Upload files and sync them to your Dropbox
Take a photo, shoot a video, or upload some audio from your Blackberry phone and email its public link to a friend in less than a minute.
- Share links to files in your Dropbox
Yes! Any file in your Dropbox!According to
Dropbox, the first 1000 people that would sign up for the beta flavor of the mobile software solution would also receive early access to the Dropbox Blackberry app. However, the beta release is set to be tested on a limited number of devices for the time being, only 500, it seems, and only on BlackBerry handsets running under the BlackBerry 5.0 OS, at least this is what a recent post on the Dropbox forums notes.
“Dropbox for
Blackberry is finally here! We're starting with a limited beta (500 users) for OS 5.0-only devices. We'll be expanding the beta to earlier OS versions in the future as we become more comfortable with stability and performance on older devices,” is what the said forum
post reads. According to some of those who already started using
the app, it comes with appealing graphics, resembling a lot with the desktop flavor of the solution. Dropbox for Blackberry is also said to be working quite fast when used over a Wi-Fi connection. Keep an eye on this space for more info on the matter.
