With a 3-year contract with Rogers

Canadian mobile phone users now have the opportunity to purchase one of the available Android-powered mobile phones in the country for a price tag of only $49.99. While Rogers Wireless dropped the cost for the two devices, namely the HTC Dream and HTC Magic, to only $79.99 just a few days ago, now we learn that they are available for an even lower price at FutureShop and BestBuy.

Unfortunately, the $49.99 promotion for the HTC Dream and Magic will end today at FutureShop, and it is available only for in-shop purchase, it seems, yet it still sounds like a deal. Those interested in snagging one of these smartphones running under Google's Android operating system will have enough time until tonight to do so. On the other hand, the BestBuy promotion will be here until the end of September, so not all is lost if you can't have it today.

We should mention that the three-year contract agreement with Rogers is still required to make the acquisition, yet, considering the low price, it should sound good to a lot of people in the country. Initially, Rogers had the two devices available for its subscribers for $149.99 on a 3-year contract, yet the company lowered the price to $99.99 a while ago, and recently decreased it even more.

The price drops seem quite impressive, one should agree, and they might suggest either that the phones see low traction on the market or that the carrier is getting ready to launch another Android-based device. However, slow sales would make sense, considering the competition the two phones have to face in the country.

On the other hand, Rogers Wireless might very well launch another Android device in the near future, and is thus trying to sell as many Dreams and Magics as possible. The carrier might bring to Canada either the third Android device from HTC, the Hero, or Samsung's fist such phone, the Galaxy, both of which received FCC approval not too long ago. Either way, Rogers is certainly cooking something up, so stay tuned to learn the details on it.
