14 DAY TRIAL // Intego, the self-touted Mac security expert, has issued a minor update for users of its anti-malware program, VirusBarrier X6. Targeting paranoid Mac users, VirusBarrier provides what Intego calls “comprehensive protection” from both malware and network threats. The company has also dropped the program’s price recently, in an effort to attract more customers.
Upon introducing VirusBarrier X6 last month, Intego explained that the updated antivirus app incorporated most of the features of NetBarrier, Intego's personal firewall, in addition to VirusBarrier’s typical anti-malware features. Up until that point, those who wished to have an increased level of protection were required to employ both solutions.
Not anymore, with VirusBarrier X6, Intego says. Also (as noted above), Intego was careful to listen to its customers' demands, and decided to drop the price for VirusBarrier X6, in addition to updating the software with several new features and enhancements.
“We listen closely to what our customers say about our products, and we made many changes to VirusBarrier X6. We added more than 100 new features, lowered our price, and added multi-Mac protection to our basic pack,” Laurent Marteau, CEO Intego, said on January 15th. “VirusBarrier is a better value than ever, offering antivirus and anti-malware protection, a two-way firewall, anti-phishing protection, web threat protection and much more.”
With the latest version out, Intego reveals VirusBarrier X6 10.6.4 is a simple maintenance update that includes minor bug fixes. Its virus definitions haven’t even been touched, so you’re probably on the safe side even if you don’t update ASAP. Some would say Mac owners are on the safe side even without installing Intego’s useless antivirus “crap,” but that’s a different story altogether. Admittedly, web threats are real and affect every type of computer, while Intego provides protection against those too.
