A BitTorrent client similar to the popular Vuze, Transmission is a peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing application whose code is licensed under the GNU General Public License, with select code licensed under the liberal MIT License. The program boasts a simple, intuitive interface designed to integrate tightly with any OS. Transmission is a Universal Binary, suitable for both Intel and PowerPC Macs.

Supported by developer Eric Petit, Transmission runs natively on Mac OS X, seamlessly configuring your network, banning peers who send corrupted data intelligently, using protocol encryption and built-in Peer Exchange. It also allows you to efficiently ration commodity, only slowing down your system when you actually focus on it.

Released to the public today, Transmission 1.80 Beta 2 delivers fixes for the various bugs encountered in using the first beta release, as well as a couple of new additions on the web side (client) of the program. For all supported platforms, the people in charge with maintaining the program claim there is now better prefetching of local data that's being uploaded to peers. Additionally, these four issues have been addressed:

· Fix 1.80 beta 1 tracker connection / announce bug. · Fix 1.80 beta 1 crash "Assertion failed: (a->byteCount == b->byteCount)". · Fix 1.80 beta 1 crash when being controlled by transmission-remote-dotnet. · Fix 1.80 beta 1 crash when a malformed magnet link is given to Transmission.

For the Mac version only, Transmission 1.80 Beta 2 fixes two bugs (IPv6 port check issue on 10.6; bug when pasting a URL into the torrent window) reported in the first beta of this release, and includes updated Spanish, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese localizations.

Skipping the GTK+ changes (which you can check out for yourselves in the release notes here), the web client has undergone a few modifications as well, some of which include the addition of a "Start When Added" checkbox when adding torrents, as well as Select All / Deselect All buttons. That’s pretty much it. Go ahead and download the new version using the link below, but exercise caution as this is Beta software.
