Don Cheadle got a lot of screen time in “Iron Man 3” so perhaps fans of this particular Marvel character had anticipated seeing Rhodes / War Machine in “The Avengers” sequel as well. If they did, they were right on the money all along.

HitFix confirms online rumors that Cheadle will appear in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” even saying that he “has a key role in the conflict with Ultron that is the main focus of the sequel.”

The film is scheduled for release in 2015, with a start production date set for this spring. Incidentally, Cheadle is contractually bound to Marvel for another few movies, whereas Robert Downey Jr., who plays Iron Man, has repeatedly said that the time will eventually come for him to say goodbye to the franchise.

This could mean that Marvel is eyeing Cheadle as a replacement of sorts for RDJ. The studio is looking to spice things up a bit in the second “Avengers” movie, and Cheadle could be just the thing to help them do that.

“One thing you can count on is that at the end of ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron,’ the group that calls themselves The Avengers isn't going to be the same group we saw eating shwarma together at the end of the first film. Major changes are coming for The Avengers,” HitFix writes.

One of these changes would be breaking up the group in the upcoming installment, in preparation for the moment when Thanos arrives on Earth.
