Developer and publisher Larian Studios has announced that it is working on a new game in the Divinity saga, called Original Sin, which is set to be launched during the second quarter of 2013 on the PC and Mac and will offer fans a classic role-playing experience in the mold of the original Divine Divinity and Baldur’s Gate.

Larian Studios will create a game that allows players to freely develop their characters, choosing their skills and the spells as they progress, while exploring the complex fantasy world of Divinity.

Interaction and freedom will be at the core of the Original Sin experience, with gamers able to move almost any object around or steal it and a variety of options offered both in dealing with enemies and with friendly characters.

Battles will be turn-based and the new Divinity game will include cross character skill and spell combos while also making the environment an important part of all encounters.

The game will offer a 4-player cooperative mode that should allow gamers to both explore and to battle together while also influencing all the conversations with NPCs.

The development team has not offered too much information about the actual story of the game, saying that it precedes the events of Divine Divinity.

The snippet offered teases, “The orcs of Tanoroth are on the march, wielding magic never seen before: bloody, deadly, reality‐bending. The free nations of Rivellon are about to fall beneath their blades. Yet thereare two unlikely heroes who can resist this savage magic: a condemned warrior released from his chains and a mystic heroine restored to life.”

The official description concludes, “Will they be strong enough to cope with the sins of their past? And will they be strong enough to counter the even greater threat that hides behind the marching orcs?”

Divinity: Original Sin will also include a deep editor, allowing gamers to create their own experiences based around the same fantasy setting.
