It's easier, now, to understand why UHD TVs are becoming cheap so fast

I didn't come out and say it, but one of the reasons why UHD TVs may drop to $800 / €800 by October is because LCDs are too many.

Due to weak TV demand, and a general slowdown in display orders despite this being a time when it should go up, there is an imbalance between supply and demand.

That imbalance will only get worse. Supply of large-size LCDs will, iSuppli predicts, exceed demand by 15.9% during the period from July through September 2013, measured in terms of square meters.

Sure, the oversupply was expected, but even the most pessimistic of analysts only foresaw a 13.2% oversupply.

“This is the time of the year when LCD panel makers usually are ramping up production to meet holiday demand for televisions, notebook PCs, tablets and other consumer-oriented electronics,” said Ricky Park, senior manager for large-area displays at IHS. “However, the display industry is confronting the prospect of weak sales growth and a lack of visibility into future demand trends.”
