The upcoming Dirt 3 will have, besides its realistic rallying and racing experiences, a very intriguing multiplayer mode, which turns one car into a zombie that must infect others.

Codemasters is getting ready to release Dirt 3, the newest installment in its prestigious rally and racing simulator.

We've already seen that the title will incorporate the drifting phenomenon which is Gymkhana, a series of videos released by American rally driver Ken Block that caught the world by storm, but it seems that the team at Codemasters implemented other flamboyant ideas.

Among them, according to Dirt 3 designer Paul Coleman who talked with Kotaku about the game, is a special multiplayer mode that turns one car into a "zombie" that must infect others before a timer runs out.

In case you're looking for something other than the regular head-to-head or eight player online races, this new mode will certainly depart from traditional racing experiences.

One car will act as a zombie, with its windshield turning green and the screen changing color, which must infect others that will be "zombified" as well.

Codemasters pondered adding actual zombies in this mode, that you could run over with the vehicle, but car companies weren't exactly keen on seeing their models take on the undead.

Besides this, the Gymkhana bonus mode will allow players to see if they can match up to rally driver Ken Block, who became an Internet and real-life celebrity after videos of his training runs racked up millions of views on YouTube.

The game will allow players to enter derelict locations and create their own drifting routines, which can be uploaded to YouTube as 30-second videos.

Last but not least, Dirt 3 will also have traditional rally and racing events, with over 50 cars including classics like the Audi Quattro, that are set to realistically behave once they change their running surface, from gravel to asphalt or snow.

Dirt 3 will be out for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 24.
