Certainly if you aim to provide gamers with a reference point against which they can judge a game, you can do much worse that System Shock (the original or the superior sequel?) and BioShock (one of the most interesting games of 2007). So, the people at Eidos Montreal, who are handling development on Deus Ex 3, are certainly setting their aim high. The problem is that they might also be setting gamers up for a fall, if the game doesn't deliver on its promises.

A new preview of the game, which appeared on a Czech language site, called Hratelne.cz (translation available at the Eidos forums), claims that the cyberpunk style, which Deus Ex 3 is said to be embracing, is a direct result of the developers’ love for the Art Deco of BioShock and the concept of a world that is technology oriented while retaining more traditional elements.

Gameplay details were also offered. When groups of enemies assault the player, there will be a clearly identifiable figure ordering them around. Players will have much to gain by taking out the leader do what he can, then take out the rest of the group more easily. It also seems that all the enemies and bosses will scale in difficulty based on how well the player is doing.

It appears that dialog will be important, with some augmentations affecting options directly and players being able to see what they should try out next in a dialog line by looking at the facial expressions of the people the player talks to. It seems that amongst the characters you will meet, there will be different women who will attempt to seduce and/or to betray the main character, Adam Jensen. Maybe they want to impress him so that they can see the inside of his apartment, which will be fully simulated inside the game.

Deus Ex 3 is at the moment in development for the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. We're hoping to see the game in 2009.
