Disney readjusts “Sonny with a Chance” show to allow Demi Lovato time for recovery in rehab

About a fortnight ago, Disney star Demi Lovato admitted herself to a treatment facility for personal issues her rep would not speak of with the media. Her show “Sonny with a Chance” has been readjusted until she gets back.

Ever since word got out in the media that Demi was seeking professional treatment in rehab, questions about whether Disney would “disown” her started to make the rounds, with many believing would be replaced on her own show.

People magazine can now confirm that this is definitely not the case: the television show has seen some minor modifications, in order to allow Demi time to focus on her recovery.

“The Disney Channel and producers of her ‘tween series Sonny with a Chance have decided on a temporary adjustment – allowing the spotlight to fall on the popular show within the show, So Random!” People writes.

“This switch enables the production’s third season to resume in January as scheduled and ‘allows [Demi] the time she needs to get well, without distraction or pressure,’ a Disney Channel spokeswoman tells Variety,” the report notes.

Moreover, this is Disney’s way of showing Demi that they’re behind her one hundred percent and that they, just like her fans, are worried about her health and not the fate of the show.

“Again, we extend our ongoing support to Demi and her family as she works to overcome personal issues,” the Disney rep adds.

Demi Lovato also canceled her tour with The Jonas Brothers to seek treatment, with her rep saying she’s sorry to have let fans down but will make sure to make it up to them once she’s given the OK by her doctors.

Last week, reports started making the rounds that the issues Demi was seeking help for had a lot to do with addiction to heavy drugs, with several media outlets even saying videos of the star “doing coke like a pro” were being shopped around town.

In response, Demi’s publicist issued another statement, saying her admission to rehab had nothing to do with drugs or alcohol, but with “emotional and physical issues she has battled throughout her life.”
