Yet another game adaptation

Electronic Arts is one of the biggest companies in gaming today, but it seems that it also wants to extend into other branches of the entertainment industry. As such, it has been involved with the Hollywood movie-making scene for quite some time, offering plenty of its franchises to willing directors and film writers for adaptation.

One of the most recent examples is its Dead Space property, which has already spawned one full-fledged game, with another one incoming for the Wii, an animated movie, a comic book series and, soon enough, a live action movie. The project is now getting off the ground, as the company has just announced that D.J. Caruso will be the director of the movie.

The moviemaker, also responsible for titles like Eagle Eye, will be collaborating with Temple Hill partners Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey. The team is already interviewing multiple screenwriters and once one will be signed on, the whole project will be auctioned to a large Hollywood studio that will invest in its filming process.

The last property from Electronic Arts that has followed this course of action is Dante's Inferno, which hasn't even seen the game be released, as it is still under development at the company's Visceral Games studio. Universal is the company that will handle the title, which is inspired by Dante Alighieri's epic poem.

For those of you who forgot, Dead Space tells the grim story of a lonely engineer named Isaac Clarke, who goes on a mission aboard a seemingly abandoned space ship, only to find that it is filled with alien monsters called Necromorphs. The only way to defeat them is to sever their limbs, thus delivering a pretty gruesome experience.

Among other properties set to receive a silver screen adaptation these days are BioShock, World of Warcraft or Army of Two. Hopefully though, we will get to see some quality releases from the movie studios.
